SINE is a leading Technology Business Incubator hosted by the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB) as an Not-for-Profit organisation. SINE has pioneered incubation efforts in academic institutions in India. It offers start-to-end support to innovators and entrepreneurs; It gives prototyping grants, provides incubation support to IITB-based tech start-ups, and runs accelerator programs in corporate partnership. It also conducts several cross-border outreach programs. SINE is closely working with innovators, academia, Government departments, industries, other incubators & accelerators, and organizations focusing on innovation and entrepreneurship.

The Position

SINE is looking for Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Dy CEO). The Dy CEO will play a key role in pursuing SINE’s vision and mission by executing SINE’s incubation plans and programs and contributing to growth and success of startups. The person will also be encouraged to introduce new ideas and initiatives to take SINE at the next level. The person will be supported by an able team of more than 25 employees. SINE offers a humble yet very pleasant work environment with opportunities to lead expansion and networking with entire startup ecosystem. The position is for 3-years on contract basis with possibility of upward growth and extension.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Overall: Primarily responsible for contributing to long-term strategic plans to achieve SINE’s objectives and its mission. Assist in expansion of programs, outreach, and network of SINE. Promoting vision of SINE, upholding its values and people oriented culture of SINE.
  • Operations: Overall supervising and enhancing efficiency of incubation operations, processes, infrastructure and facilities, accounts & finance, legal & regulatory, administration, HR, IT systems. This would include involvement in annual budgets preparation and adhere to financial discipline, keep a control over cash-flow position, annual accounts, tax compliances, regulatory compliances, legal agreements of commercial and non-commercial nature. Managing various government grants.
  • Startups: Planning, strategising, managing, evolving incubation and innovation programs to make them attractive for high quality startups. Supporting and mentoring innovators, entrepreneurs and startups for their growth and success by helping them connect with mentors, investors, experts, organising events and outreach activities for start-ups. Managing and scaling investment programs.
  • Ecosystem: Liaise with internal stakeholders and handling relationships with incubatees, various departments and functionaries of IIT Bombay, students. Building an external network of industry, investors, government agencies for benefit of start-ups. Engaging with startups ecosystem and Initiating various partners programs.
  • Team: Team management by mentoring and motivating them to achieve organisational objectives, making sure that the team feels valued. Promoting communication within the team for information flow and smooth functioning. Evolve HR policies to integrate team with organisation’s mission and culture. Setting goals for performance and growth of team.

Eligibility and Requirement

  • Masters’ degree with bachelor’s degree in engineering or science.
  • Proven experience minimum 10-15 years of experience in senior management role of a business organization.
  • Preference will be given to a candidate with an experience of dealing with entrepreneurship, and understanding of startup issues, investment, and ability to mentor them.
  • Demonstrable competency in strategic planning and business affairs. Aptitude in decision-making and problem-solving.
  • Working knowledge of business functions such as HR, Marketing, IT/Business infrastructure and Finance with budget focused mindset.
  • Outstanding written and oral business communication skills, organizational and leadership skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills, ability of taking the team along and grooming them.
  • Exposure to academia will be an added advantage.
  • Passion for working in a not-for-profit impact sector where the salary is not the only determining factor for joining the organisation.

Reporting: Reporting will be to and working closely with the CEO.

Annual Compensation: On par with academia
