Entrepreneurial Mindset

Posted on November 16, 2021November 16, 2021 by SINE

The Nykaa success story is trending not just for wearing the right lens to seize the opportunity at the right time, but also the formidable mindset of the founder Falguni Nayyar.  The mindset of stepping out of the comfort zone of a successful corporate career in investment banking to entrepreneurship, in a diametrically opposite sector with focus on beauty, retail and technology.  Falguni challenged many myths as she took a leap of faith in 2012 of making a difference for women by creating a meaningful brand for the society.

Mindset is a very individualistic attribute of a person.  However when the purpose is fueled by a vision and goal of making a difference in the society, the agility of the mindset to adapt to changing needs becomes  paramount.  Nurturing a growth mindset by embracing the uncertainties & risks in a calculative manner amongst founders and core team members of the startup has become vital nutrient for growth stage startups.

Startup eco-system today is considered one of the most vibrant eco-system for all the stakeholders including the startup founders.  The Indian startup eco-system is witnessing interesting growth trajectories with phenomenal valuations.  One of the key drivers to this growth is the mindset of the founder(s) of the startup especially during the early stages.

Startups have limited resources in terms of money material and manpower; however the only resource which is available in abundance is the fertile mindset of the founders.  A mindset if nurtured well with a willingness to adapt, empathize, collaborate, seek guidance with the right network and take calculated risks to seize the opportunity.

Falguni Nayyar’s philosophy of creating and building Nykaa to what it is today is a testimony of power of a fertile mindset. The founder’s actions, decision and mindset form an integral part of the startup journey and helps create a conducive environment for growth of not only startups but also individuals/employees. As the startup grows, the mindset adapted by the founders subtly converges to becoming an integral culture of the company.  This intrinsic strength prepares the startup to deal with the VUCA world in an effective manner. The leadership position Nykaa has gained in the highly competitive and fragmented market can be attributable to the company’s value, vision and culture, the foundation emanating from the mindset of the founder(s) and core team during the startup days.
